When a precision engineering company in Portsmouth needed an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) to meet insurance requirements, shutting down their CNC and robotic machinery wasn’t an option. Initial Enquiry

The client approached Helix Electrical with a request for an estimate to carry out an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). Their previous report was out of date, and their insurance provider required an updated certificate to ensure compliance.

The Challenge

The facility operates extended hours from Monday to Thursday, with a half-day on Friday. Due to the critical nature of their operations, the client made it clear that any interruption to their power supply during working hours was not acceptable.

Planning with the Client

Helix Electrical worked closely with the client to develop a delivery plan that allowed the EICR to be completed with zero disruption to production. The process included:

• Initial Visual Inspection: We conducted a non-intrusive survey of the site, identifying and documenting distribution boards and final circuits based on existing certification and site labelling. This allowed us to create tailored working templates in advance.
   
• Agreed Scope & Methodology: We consulted with the client to understand access limitations, agree a representative sample size for intrusive testing, and determine the sequence of works.
   
• Working Hours: To avoid operational disruption, we agreed on a safe and workable schedule for out-of-hours inspections and testing.

Outcome

Upon completion of the EICR, Helix Electrical provided a comprehensive estimate for all necessary remedial works. This was reviewed in detail with the client, and a structured programme of works was agreed to ensure the ongoing safety and compliance of their electrical installations.
